Brenda obtained a master's degree in Microbiology from Radboud University in Nijmegen. Her graduation research focused on nitrifiers (nitrogen removal) in water treatment plants. She also did an internship at the department of Fungal Biotechnology at Utrecht University. After her graduation, Brenda worked for several years as a strain engineer at EV Biotech, where she worked on the genetic modification of yeasts.

At our company, she uses her expertise for her PhD research on the effect of organic fertilisation on the soil microbiome. Brenda appreciates the variety and versatility of her job. From taking samples in the field to performing analyses in the laboratory, every day brings new challenges and opportunities. She also enjoys the days when she can delve into interesting articles to gain new insights and expand her knowledge.

Her colleagues describe her as smart, friendly, serious and well-organised.

Outside of work, Brenda has a range of interests, including running, reading, doing puzzles and singing in an a cappella choir.
