Joost Gierkink
'I take great satisfaction in solving complex molecular issues and contributing to practical, sustainable solutions in agriculture.'
Joost is a senior expert in soil resilience and plant pathogen diagnostics, and is responsible for the molecular biology development team. Following his studies in Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the Hogeschool Enschede (HLO), he embarked on an impressive career in molecular biology, with a clear focus on applied research.
He began his career at Wageningen Food & Biobased Research, after which he spent many years at Genetwister Technologies, working on innovative techniques for genetic modification and biomarker development in plants. At HZPC Research, he helped set up the molecular lab, which was focused on controlled potato breeding and pathogen detection. After spending a period as a senior researcher at HLB, he made the move to Bioclear earth.
Joost feels at home at the intersection of disciplines, where practical knowledge, innovation and collaboration intersect. Bioclear earth's short lines of communication and open atmosphere are a perfect match. He refers to this approach as non-dualistic working: working together from a position of equality, with room for both knowledge sharing and personal growth.
His colleagues value his fresh perspective, drive and eye for detail. He has a wealth of knowledge, enjoys sharing it, and is therefore a valuable and pleasant colleague to work with.
In his spare time, Joost enjoys gardening, watching movies and hiking in the mountains.
