Mark Nijland
‘I love solving scientific puzzles that contribute to a more sustainable world.’
He started his scientific career with a Bachelor's degree in Crime Science at Saxion University of Applied Sciences in Enschede, followed by a Master's degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the University of Groningen. During his PhD research in Membrane Enzymology, he focused on membrane proteins involved in vitamin B12 transport in bacteria. He derived the greatest sense of fulfilment from working in conjunction with his students, engaging in collaborative problem-solving to formulate solutions.
At Bioclear earth, Mark strengthens the Bioenergy team with his expertise in microbiological processes. He enjoys solving scientific problems and turning complex issues into practical solutions.
His colleagues describe him as proactive and committed, and as someone who quickly assimilates new material. He pays close attention to detail, is helpful and positive, and enjoys the occasional joke.
When he's not working, he likes to go to the gym, listen to podcasts, watch good TV series and go on long walks with his dog.
