Soil and water systems are closely interconnected and should often be seen in conjunction, as one functioning ecosystem. An integrated approach is crucial for solving societal challenges related to a healthy living environment, vital eco-systems and a future-proof economy. Our expertise supports governments and other stakeholders in challenges such as achieving the goals of the new European Soil Health legislation and implementing the Environment Act.

Although many old contaminants have already been cleaned up, we are constantly faced with new challenges that require innovative solutions, such as:

• new Substances of Very High Concern (PHS) and Emerging Substances (OS) entering soil and surface water such as medicine residues and PFAS;
• nutrients and plant protection products from intensive agriculture;
• impacts of climate change such as extreme weather, which overload existing systems;
• urban development where there should be space for purifying greenery.
