Afnan's career journey started with her studies in Biology in Brazil at the Federal University of Pampa, followed by a PhD in Soil Science at the University of Santa Maria. For her PhD, she conducted research at the Netherlands Institute for Ecology (NIOO)for one year, where she subsequently worked as a postdoc for four years. Her research mainly focused on unraveling the impact of fertilizers on soil microbiology. She can tell you all sorts of things about the nitrogen cycle. After completing her PhD, she continued her career at KWR, where she was involved in various projects in the field of drinking water. But her heart lies mainly in soil biology, so she continued her journey north to work with us. At Bioclear earth, Afnan works on projects that increase our knowledge of the effects of different methods of soil management on soil biology, soil health and climate change. As colleagues we got to know Afnan as someone with a keen insight and a “let’s go for it” mentality. She also has a good sense of humor. We are very happy with her as an addition to our team.
In her spare time she enjoys traveling, learning new languages and kickboxing.
